Ko Rana tēnei, no Aotearoa E eke ai au nei te waka hourua. E hurihuri ana te ao i ngā wā kātoa. Eke mai, ka haere tāua. Me tiro whakamuri kia anga whakamua. Kaore i te uaua! - Kia ora! Ka tere taua Ki ngā rā o mua Ki ngā rā e heke mai nei hoki. Ne rā! - Me kimi tāua ngā huarahi pai. Tīkina ou hū me tā tāua kai. Kua rite koe? Nō reira, haere mai! - Haere mai e hoa. Mauria mau tō hoe. Āna, koia. Mihi atu ki tō whānau, ka kitea ākuanei anō rātou. - I am Rana, from Aotearoa. I ride a double hulled waka. The world is always turning! Hop on, we are going. You need to look to the past to navigate the future. It’s not hard! - Hey there! Let’s get going To the days in the past and also to the days of the future. Great! - We need to find the right path. Grab your shoes and our food. Are you ready? Let’s go! - Come on, friend. Grab your paddle. That’s it, that’s the one. Say “see you soon” to your family. You’ll be back shortly. -

Ko wai koe? Ko wai au? No hea koe? No hea au? He uri ō ngā kaiwhakatere au. Ngā ngaru me ngā manu hei Tohu o te ara pai. I rapua e rātou ngā motu hou. Kōrero mai, kōrero mai. Kia mōhio ai, kia mōhio ai. He aha ai? He aha ai? He aha i mahue atu ai? I whakatōngia ngā kākano O ngā iwi Māori e. Who are you? Who am I? Where are you from? Where am I from? I am a descendent of the navigators. The waves and the birds were Symbols of the right path. They searched for new islands. Tell me, tell me. So that I can know, so that I can know. Why? Why? Why did you leave? The seeds of the Māori people Were sown.

My language is flowing, flowing, flowing, flowing, flowing. Our world turns and turns. The tūī is crying, crying, crying, crying, crying. The bubba is crying, crying, crying, crying, crying. Our world turns and turns. The leaves are rustling, rustling, rustling, rustling. The breath is rustling, rustling, rustling, rustling. Our world turns and turns. The water sparkles, sparkles, sparkles, sparkles. Your eyes sparkle, sparkle, sparkle, sparkle. Our world turns and turns.

Te marama e whiti ana Te manu tangi mai. Te tamariki e moe ana Kei raro i ōna tūpuna. Ēnei wā o mua He akoranga mō te anamata Ngā rā āpōpō. Te marama ōrite. Rona whakamautai. Taonga tuku iho Te mātauranga tāwhito. Whakamaua ēnei kupu Hei tauira. Whiti mai ngā whetu Ngā tūpuna o onamata. Nā te pō, te kore, te aō mārama e whiti ana. The moon is shining The bird is singing. The child is sleeping beneath her ancestors. These days of the past Are a lesson for the future For the coming days. The moon is the same. Rona controller of the tides. It’s a treasure passed down, This ancient knowledge. Hold onto these words As an example. The stars are shining The ancestors from the past. Out of the darkness and the nothingness, the world of light is shining.

- He aha tēnei mea e heke mai nei? Te ua. - Kapua pōturi Kawe mai koe i te aha? He ua kia horoi ōku makawe ai? Kapua pōturi Kawe mai koe i te aha? He ua kia horoi tōku arero ai? Ngā roimata e heke mai nei. Te mamae o te wehenga e. Te wai, tōku manawa, Tōku wairua e. Tōku wairua e. - What is this thing that’s coming towards us? It's rain. - Slow cloud What are you bringing to me? Is it rain to wash my hair? Slow cloud, What are you bringing to me? Is it rain to wash my tongue? The tears that are falling. The pain of the separation. The water is my heart It is my spirit. It is my spirit.

about

Join Rana and Sussy as they ride on a time travelling waka through our past, present and future to learn secrets and lessons for all days. These waiata are a series of demos much inspired by Hirini Melbourne, Anika Moa, The Wiggles, The Ding Difference and his Fungiz and Spongebob's "Lost Episode".
In some possible future, I can see this concept working as TV show for children - a time travelling waka checking the riches of our histories.
Kupu and notes, where needed, are available. Click through to individual songs to see these.
